School Plan and Targets
These have been designed to reinforce our previous achievements and further develop new areas for development in accordance with our school plan.
In keeping with DET requirements, the school plan was developed following a consultative process. It provides a strategic framework for improving student learning outcomes over a three Year period.
Annual targets are intended to provide a more detailed focus on specific areas for improvement during each school Year. An outline of our plan is published on our school website and printed copies are available upon request.
Ongoing school program evaluations and analysis of school based and statewide student performance data underpins the school plan and provides a direction for future planning.
School Strategic Plan : 2009-2011
Target 1
To maintain an increased focus on literacy and numeracy, as well as quality teaching in the classroom leading to improved results in statewide tests.
Strategies to achieve this target include:
- a continued professional learning focus on quality teaching with emphasis on whole school literacy and numeracy initiatives;
- revised procedures for student allocation to Year 7 class groups based upon results from statewide numeracy tests;
- introduction of a series of faculty evaluations and reviews (based upon the quality teaching model) to identify good practice and encourage the sharing of improved teaching and learning strategies across the school.
Our success will be measured by:
- improved student results, especially in the area of numeracy skills in the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN);
- student results which compare more favourably with the national benchmarks; and,
- a continuing improvement trend in student results at the School Certificate and HSC.
Target 2
To develop a renewed focus on technology support and resources to support teaching and learning programs in the classroom.
Strategies to achieve this target include:
- further staff training in new technologies for the classroom and improved computer access for staff and students;
- encourage staff to be involved in online professional teaching and learning resources; and,
- training of all staff in online ‘Moodle’ teaching and learning support platform.
Our success will be measured by:
- increased evidence of classroom technology resources being incorporated into classrooms and teaching and learning programs;
- improved staff skills and confidence in the use of ICT resources in the classroom; and,
- increased engagement of students in the classroom.
Target 3
To encourage all students to strive to achieve their personal best and to recognise, reward and celebrate their success.
Strategies to achieve this target include:
- implementation of revised procedures and changes to the student reward scheme;
- regular student welfare and student well-being based programs for each Year group; and,
- evaluate and revise existing school policies and procedures relating to encouraging, praising and celebrating student achievement.
Our success will be measured by:
- increased number of students receiving merit cards and merit certificates and qualifying for principal’s awards and school medallions; and,
- increased number of students who are proud of their achievements and striving for success in their schoolwork.
